240GB Sony MicroVault Counterfeit Fake USB Flash Drive – Model Number USM240024
Posted by flashchiptutor on March 26, 2009
Beware Sony Microvault model USM240024 advertised as 240GB with a packaging label of 240G is a counterfeit – fake! Sony never produced this usb flash drive. Sold on wholesaler internet sites in China and Hong Kong. Often sold as “upgraded” – there is no such thing. This drive is unlikely to have a real capacity of more than 512MB. This model is the favorite Sony Micro vault counterfeit sold on eBay. It comes in other sizes and packaging. Avoid being frauded or scammed. Do not buy this usb flash drive, you risk data loss. Do not sell this usb flash drive!
This is a very popular article. If you bought one of these drives, please send the details to sosfakeflashdrive@gmail.com

how can I format micro vault 240g
FlashChipTutor said
There is no such thing as a 240g sony micro vault flash drive, it has been hacked – so trying to format it with an operating system won’t be useful. Your only option is to try and restore it to it’s real size. See the http://fixfakeflash.wordpress.com/ site for information to help you.

See comment to puyan. If you bought one of these, you can expect trouble. No such thing exists as 240GB sony microvault flash drive – your only hope is to find out the true size and perhaps suceed in repairing it. We have not seen one of these 240GB Sony MicroVault USM240024 with real capacity above 512mb so far. These fakes usb drives are among the oldest still circulating.
Try to get a refund from the seller, if you can not then attempt to restore it to true size. It would be a challenge and perhaps not worth the effort if the true size is very small.
These fakes are truely a plague!

Very good info. It’s too bad there are so many people who do not seem to read what you wrote and then ask for help when they would not have had to ask if they had read the information

I know exactly how frustrating it is having spent more than 30 years doing computer support type work and often got frustrated when people either would not read the information or instructions or would interpret it however they wanted it to read.
Anyways, as one professional you are doing some good even though it may not seem so at times and keep up the good work

I am already frustrated fixing the Sony flash drive 240 how do i fix it after i found the tool?

Visit the http://fixfakeflash.wordpress.com/ site, use a keyword “visual” in search to look for articles that show what people do.
Every tool is slighly different, the principals are the same. Consider if you want to do this, invest the time. What size did H2testw report as the actual capacity? These are extremely old fakes. You might only have 128MB to 512MB true capacity. So far, no one had more than that. Considering your false size of 240GB, repairing to less then 1GB is more than a disappointment.
Also a repaired flash drive, can never be fully trusted. You must never use it to archive information or store files you do not have a backup for. It is too risky.
Sony never made the counterfeits shown at the top of this article. It is often a terrible financial tragedy for anyone who actually bought one. It hurts. The final size after a repair hurts too.
